Equine Obituary – The Mason Dixie Line

The Tennessee Walking Horse industry lost one of its greats on July 14, 2026, with the passing of World Grand Champion The Mason Dixie Line.
Bred by Mark Walling, The Mason Dixie Line was sired by The Dixie Lineman and out of the Royal Label mare, A Labeled Lady. He began his career under the direction of Brad Beard, who started and campaigned the talented young stallion throughout the majority of his two-year-old season.
In the fall of 2015, The Mason Dixie Line captured the attention of Wayne Putman and his daughter, Beth Pippin, who purchased the promising young stallion. Following the purchase, he was relocated to Dick Peebles Stables, where Pippin made her debut aboard him at the Walking For The Angels Horse Show. The pair earned the blue ribbon that evening, marking the beginning of a remarkable partnership and a bond that would last throughout his career.
Prior to his three-year-old season, The Mason Dixie Line moved to Indian Lake Stables under the guidance of Brandye Mills and Tim Smith. In 2017, Smith and The Mason Dixie Line claimed the Four-Year-Old Stallions World Championship and the Four-Year-Old Reserve World Grand Championship at the Celebration.
The following year, under the direction of Abernathy Stables, Pippin guided him to another Reserve World Grand Championship, this time in the Owner-Amateur Canter division. The pinnacle of his show career came in 2021 when The Mason Dixie Line and Pippin delivered a memorable performance at the Celebration, earning both the Owner-Amateur Canter World Championship and the coveted Owner-Amateur Canter World Grand Championship.
Throughout his distinguished career, The Mason Dixie Line amassed more than 44 blue ribbon victories at many of the industry’s most prestigious shows. Beyond the accolades, however, he was far more than a champion in the show ring. To Beth Pippin, he was truly the horse of a lifetime, and to all who knew him, he was a horse with an unforgettable personality and a heart that endeared him to everyone he met.
The Mason Dixie Line leaves behind a lasting legacy and will be deeply missed by his owners, trainers, and the many fans who were fortunate enough to witness his extraordinary career.

SHELBYVILLE, Tenn. – It was Wednesday night at The Celebration. A week of showing had already transpired as workers and attendees alike prepared for the last three monumental nights. For now, Wednesday would see some of the first world grand champions crowned. Furthermore, it was Pink Night in the Big Oval, wherein everyone wore pink to support the Bedford Cancer Foundation.
