Obituary – Joe Martin

Joe Albert Martin of Cadiz, Kentucky, formerly of Cherryville and Bourbon, Missouri, passed away on Monday, August 12, 2024 in his home surrounded by his family at the age of 92 years, 7 months and 18 days.
He was born on Christmas Day, December 25, 1931 in Cherryville, MO to Monroe “Mon” Martin and Hallie Halbert Martin. He grew up in Cherryville, graduating from the Class of 1949 at Cherryville High School. After high school, Joe went to work at Brown Shoe Company in Steelville for a year. On September 3, 1950, he was united in marriage to Melba Eaton and later to this union two sons were born. He and Melba moved to Maplewood and he spent ten years at a factory. He then decided to go to Barber School in St. Louis and after graduating, he spent 36 years as a barber in House Springs, MO.
Joe was a longtime member of the Cherryville Baptist Church and a member of the Lebanon Masonic Lodge #77 in Steelville.
Joe always loved to deer hunt with some rabbit hunting around Kansas City back in the earlier days. He also loved going to horse shows all around the state. He loved attending walking horse shows with his family to watch his granddaughter and son compete. Through the years, Joe loved watching St. Louis Cardinal baseball and was an avid fan even when they were losing. He also enjoyed riding his stationary bike each day in the last few years.
Most of all he loved his family and would cherish the times he spent with them.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Monroe and Hallie Martin; and grandson, Jason Martin.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Melba, of almost 74 years; two sons, Kelly (Dawn) Martin of Cadiz, KY and Alan (Phyllis) Martin of Cuba, MO; five grandchildren, Svanah, Jeremiah, Isaiah Martin and Jeff (Jill) Martin; four great-grandchildren, Addie Martin, Mia Martin, Molina Martin and Miah Martin; other relatives; and many friends throughout the years.
The Family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until service time on Thursday, August 15, 2024 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville, MO.
Livestreaming on Britton-Bennett Funeral Home Facebook page will be available a few minutes before service time.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 15, 2024 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home with Reed Shepherd officiating.
Committal prayer and interment will be in the Cherryville Baptist Church Cemetery, Cherryville, Missouri.
The Martin Family was served by the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home of Steelville, MO.
